Pulp

With 2.12, running Pulp itself on EL6 is no longer supported, but the support to sync, publish, and manage consumers for EL5+ is still supported with 2.12+. Is your question about managing EL5+ systems with 2.12+ or running the Pulp server itself on EL6?

I am exploring options in the later one. Which is running pulp server on EL6. I understand from the pulp documentation the newer version of pulp would only support latest RHEL. What wonders me, will the users of earlier versions of pulp, like 2.12 will keep getting security patches and updates if there are any?

It depends on the severity of the issue. In cases where a bugfix needs to be backported to 2.11, we will backport that bug and put out a release. At this time, no further bug fixes (or releases) are expected for 2.11.

With 2.12 being generally available, it would take an exceptional issue to have it backported to 2.11.z with a new release for EL6. As an El6 user to receive support, the best thing would be to upgrade your Pulp server to EL7 so you can continue to upgrade to supported releases. I know upgrading is hard and maybe not an option at this time, but I need to recommend it because it's likely your best path to running a supported version.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of this is beyond Pulp's control including dependencies we require being removed from epel soon and required dependencies already having halted updates on EL6. For these reasons there isn't much value is Pulp continuing to release on EL6. We wrote some about this on the blog. http://pulpproject.org/2016/11/17/django14-epel6-retirement/

Update is always a good option. It helps solve a lot of bugs.

One suggestion I would like to make though the pulp project does have the release notes for the version, but after version 2.8 I only see issues are being updated there. It would be a good to publish a "supported feature list" for that particular version. Please do let me know if there is no such list. I would be happy to prepare one.

Pulp 2 is approaching maintenance mode, and this Pulp 2 ticket is not being actively worked on. As such, it is being closed as WONTFIX. Pulp 2 is still accepting contributions though, so if you want to contribute a fix for this ticket, please reopen or comment on it.
